Growing Threats </Nicholas\> « Thread Started on Jul 21, 2008, 2:12pm »
The night was young and the mountain seemed alive with lights. Various villages had not yet reached curfew and their merrimaking could be heard for miles of each other. There seemed not to be a care in the world. That was not the case. Reports of a village under attack in the higher grounds had reached Darkhood Castle and it was time to investigate.
Lektor flew above the level of the clouds, his wings batting against the air as he made his way quickly towards the village. Smoke could be seen from the sky and a loud growl escaped him. He was to meet some of the troops and his leader in the forest nearby. Banking sharply to the left, the black dragon made his decent, wings tucked against his body as he went into a dive.
Nicholas waited, pacing to and fro on the dry forest ground as leaves and twigs cracked and splintered beneath his black boots. One of the villages was on fire after being attacked, and he feared for the villagers safety. He hoped none had perished.
At the moment he was waiting on his dragon, Lektor, to arrive to help with investigation. As Nicholas was about to think he could no longer wait, he soon heard the tremendous flap of wings above him. Nicholas looked up at the smoky sky and could make out Lektor making a dive downwards to land.
He watched as the ground came closer and closer. At the last moment, his wings flew open and he slammed against the ground, claws digging into the terrain. A satisfied snort escaped him and the large creature slowly turned around. His wings curled into his sides and both eyes came to rest on Nicholas.
"The fires are horrible, lord." he began, his voice a deep rumble from his chest, "the smoke can be seen from above the cloud cover."
As Lektor arrived, he thought of how to first put the fires out, he looked over at his troops and ordered them to look for survivors. Looking back at Lektor, he asked, "Do you think you might be able to find a way of clearing out the smoke before it makes visibility impossible while they search for survivors and clues?"
His body tensed and he spread his wings, slowly rising once more. "I can do as much as possible," he replied before flying towards the village. Once at the outskirts, the dragon began to hover. Both wings came out to try and fan the smoke away.
It was hard to overcome his own need to let out a few flames. The smoke was addicting.
